ELIMU Excursion:  An Educators &   Journalists Excursion

The Original Gullah Festival of South Carolina, Inc. is launching a pilot program on the Thursday before the festival (May 22, 2025) entitled ELIMU! The event will run from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, followed by a dinner and evening break. This year’s theme, Da’ Gullah American Revolution Experience, highlights the pivotal role of the Gullah people in our nation’s defining battle.

This engaging, immersive experience is designed to deepen understanding and appreciation of Gullah contributions to American history while equipping educators and journalists with valuable tools to share these stories.

You will experience the following for only $250.00

The Elimu Excursion will feature:
 A historical tour showcasing the Lowcountry’s connection to the American Revolution.
 A Scholar’s Luncheon, where academic specialists will guide educators on integrating Gullah history and culture into classroom teaching, paired with a Lowcountry culinary experience.
 Workshops with Revolutionary-Era Artisans, including blacksmithing, indigo dyeing, woodworking, and rice farming. Each participant will create and take home classroom-appropriate crafts reflecting the era.
 A resource guide to support academic integration of Gullah history and culture.
 A festival tote filled with educational materials and event keepsakes.
 A ticket to the award-winning production of The Decoration Day Play.
